Unique military architectural jewel of late 16th century origin, altough was not finished until early in the following century. It is situated at 158 metres above sea-level, on the top of a hill south of Porto Ercole. The name originates from its star shaped central nucleus: a six tips star in the centre of a wide four-sided building with fortified corners, of later origin (1676).

The building has thick perimetral walls, 40 metres long, 4 metres high and it holds two large rainwater cisterns. The fort stays open from April to September and hosts contemporary art shows.
