The chalk quarries exhisting in the past have left their name to this cove on the western slope of the promontory. Near the cove there is an islet in the past known as Argentino and nowadays as Argentarola.
Hiding within there is an underwater cave called Grotta delle Pumadorine (cherry tomatoes in the local slang) by its discoverer because, at first sight, the lobsters covering its dome looked like strings of cherry tomatoes the peasants used to hang on the ceiling.
