Strong fortification built by Spaniards in 1558. It has an irregular quadrangolar map with unequal, asymmetric bastions (4 outside and 4 inside) separated by a long dry moat. Filippo fort is a typical King Philip II of Spain period military building, from which it takes its name, with several defensive devices.
In the second half of 19th century its military function ended and it became a jail. Nowadays it is an exclusive holiday residence.
